Task Name: Poetry Computer Task
Due Date: Tuesday 26th of March 2013, Week 9A, Term One.
Task Description: Students are to select TWO contrasting songs/ poems that has content that is appropriate to the theme of war. They are to analyse these songs/poems in regard to the use of poetic devices and to present this analysis as a POWERPOINT file. They will also write a personal reflection where they analyse the effect of the songs/poems and make an evaluation as to which is more effective in conveying the themes of war.
Part A. ICT
The Task
1.Pick TWO songs/poems that have words/lyrics and themes which are
either pro/anti war. The poems/songs must also demonstrate the use of at least 3
different poetic techniques. (See your poetry booklet for definitions and
examples. You can use techniques not in the booklet, but check with your teacher
first). To gain higher marks you should aim for two of each technique in your
poem/song.
2.You CANNOT select a song/poem that we have looked at or studied
in class.
The powerpoint must include at least EIGHT slides per poem/song and you must include the words/lyrics on a slide or in a link to a website.
The First slide should clearly display your Song/poem title.
You must have at least SIX slides which analyse THREE language techniques used in your song/poem. You will name the language technique, provide a quote from the song/poem and provide an appropriate visual representation. You must also analyse the technique and link to the themes of the song/poem in the next slide.
Part B. Written Response
This response is to be word processed using Microsoft Word.
It is to be typed using Size 12 Font – either Arial Narrow or Times New Roman
You are to use a Header – with your name on each page. ·
Keep your language formal – although this is a personal reflection you should aim to
use a higher vocabulary and sentence structure in order to lift your level of
language.
Your response must be between 300 and 500 words.
In your written response you must clearly indicate which poem/song is more effective in conveying its pro or anti-war message and how the composer has used techniques to convey this message.
